Escombe is an old mining village situated on the River Wear about 2 miles west of Bishop Auckland in County Durham. The village is famous for its 7th century Saxon Church which is situated at the bottom of the village near to the river.

The hall was built in 2009 by Wear Valley District Council on land owned by Durham County Council. The official opening was in November 2012 by Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

There is a car park to the east of the hall. The Jubilee garden, opened along with the hall, lies to the south. To the west is a play area with a hard court area and beyond that, a football pitch. To the north there are beautiful views across the Wear Valley and Newton Cap viaduct.

The Association became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in September 2015 and took over the lease in 2016. The hall is managed by a group of Trustees responsible to the Charity Commission to whom they submit the necessary annual returns and accounts.

The hall is available to hire for:

leisure and recreational activities

family celebrations

meetings

training events
